Ingredients

Ingredients for talbina:

  • Milk - 1/2 liter
  • Crushed cardamom - 3
  • Barley jau powder - 1/2 cup
  • Honey - 6 tablespoons

Toppings:

  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Chopped dates - 12
  • Chopped almonds badam - 6
  • Chopped cashew nuts kaju - 6

Instructions

Procedure for talbina recipe:

  1. Pour 1/2 liter milk and 3 crushed cardamoms. Boil it.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of barley(jau) powder which is also known as talbina powder.
  3. I have used homemade barley powder that is roasted and blended with broken barley.

  4. Stir continuously without lumps.
  5. Stir until the talbina thickens.
  6. Add 6 tablespoons of honey or adjust as you taste.
  7. Mix well and transfer into a serving bowl.
  8. Top with 12 chopped dates, 6 almonds, and 6 cashew nuts.
  9. Top with honey which adds sweetness and some extra nutrients.
  10. Serve as a breakfast or at any time when you feel sick.
  11. Enjoy healthy and tasty talbina.

Recipe Notes

 Use good quality barley flour for best results use homemade barley flour.

Honey and dates are popular choices for sweetening talbina

If it gets too thick, simply add water or milk a little, until you reach the desired consistency.
