Ingredients

Ingredients for fish curry:

For masala:

  • cloves(laung) – 11
  • cinnamon sticks(daalacheene) – 2
  • coriander seeds(dhaniya) – 1 spoon
  • cumin seeds(jeera) – 1/2 spoon
  • coconut pieces – 1 cup

For fish curry:

  • fish – 1 kg(10 pieces)
  • oil – 4 spoons
  • chopped onions – 2
  • slit green chillies – 2
  • Ginger and garlic paste – 1 1/2 spoon
  • salt – as for required(2-3 spoons)
  • chopped tomatoes – 3
  • turmeric powder – 1/4 spoon
  • red chilli powder – 2 spoon
  • water – 3/4 glass
  • chopped coriander leaves – 1/4 cup

Instructions

Procedure for rohu fish curry:

Roasting and blending masala:

  1. Heat a pan over a medium flame add cloves, coriander seeds, cinnamon sticks and cumin seeds.

  2. Roast for a minute till the nice aroma appears.

  3. Add coconut pieces roast for a minute.

  4. Wait for a minute let it cool and add all the roasted ingredients into the blender jar.

  5. Pour little water and blend to a fine paste. Set aside.

Frying all the spices:

  1. Heat a pan over a medium flame add 4 spoons of oil.

  2. Add chopped onions and slit green chillies. fry for a minute.

  3. Add 1 1/2 spoon of ginger and garlic paste and a spoon of salt.

  4. Fry till the raw smell disappears.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes mix well. Close the lid and cook until it turns mushy.

  6. Add all the blended masala mixture mix well.

  7. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and a spoon of salt stir well.

  8. Stir continuously until the oil gets separate at the edges.

  9. pour 3/4 glass of water mix well.

  10. Add a spoon of red chilli powder for spicy fish curry. This is optional.

  11. Adjust salt and red chilli powder according to the taste.

Cooking fish:

  1. Add the cleaned fish pieces to all the fried masala mixture.

  2. Slowly shake the pan and let it cook. Do not stir with the ladle just mix by disturbing the curry.

  3. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes.

  4. Do not overcook the fish. It will break into small pieces.

  5. Finally, add chopped coriander leaves. Stir the pan.

  6. Switch off the fire. Fish curry is ready to serve.

  7. Serve fish curry with plain rice, roti or chapati.

Recipe Notes

Never ever stir with the ladle if we did it our fish will become mushy.

Do not stir with the ladle just mix by slowly shake the pan.

Do not overcook the fish. It will break into small pieces.
