pot idli recipe is a spicy idli made on tawa without idli stand and steaming. The idli is prepared on the spot hence it is named spot idli/tawa idli a delicious South Indian snack that is incredibly easy to make.
Rinse a cup of urad dal 3-4 times and soak for 4 hours.
Soak 2 cups of idli rava for at least 10-15 minutes or more.
Grind the soaked urad dal with some water until it becomes a fine paste.
Transfer the batter to a bowl.
Squeeze idli rava and add to the batter.
Mix well both urad dal mixture and idli rava without lumps.
Cover and ferment for 7 hours.
Once the batter has fermented, If necessary add some water to make it into a medium-thick batter.
Add the required salt mix the batter and set aside.
Heat a tawa to add 2 tablespoons of oil.
Add a spring of chopped curry leaves.
Add a cup of chopped onions and 2 green chillies.
Fry until the onions turn golden.
Add a cup of chopped tomatoes. Fry until they turn mushy.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of red chilli powder. Fry for a minute.
Divide into 4 equal portions and adjust the mixture into a round shape.
Pour a ladle full of batter and shape it as idli.
Cover and cook for 10 minutes over a low flame.
Sprinkle a teaspoon of red chilli powder.
Flip the idli and cook for another 2 minutes.
Once both sides are cooked, Remove the idli from the pan and serve hot with chutney or sambar.
